Yes, I'm well aware that "Unexpected" desperately needs an update and I have several unfinished stories on my blog as well, but my muse has kept coming up with ideas for this story and I just couldn't resist writing about Sigrid and Jonas.
I'm trying a new style of writing for this story; first person (from the female lead's POV) and present tense. It's a bit of a challenge, but it's also fun to do something different. I hope I get it right. Another new thing for me is that this story is set in my home town; Oslo, Norway and both of the characters are Norwegian.
The basic plot is:
19 year old Norwegian girl Sigrid has spent most of her life living abroad. She was only a toddler when her journalist father got hired as a foreign correspondent at one of Norway's biggest press agencies and the family moved to London. She has lived in the US, Australia and for the past seven years the family has been based in South Africa. She doesn't really feel Norwegian, but when it's time to choose where to go for college she makes a decision that surprises both her family and her friends; she chooses the Norwegian Business School in her hometown Oslo, Norway
Her fellow student Jonas is 28 and sustained a spinal cord injury n in a worksite accident three years earlier. His paralysis is incomplete and he switches between using a wheelchair and crutches and braces to get around.
They both feel like outsiders at school; Sigrid because doesn't like to party and keeps to herself. Jonas because of his disability and because he is almost a decade older than most of his fellow students.
Here's Chapter 1 - I hope you like it. :-)
