This week is another double-episode with a lot going on! We'll get to spend some time with Megan (David's fiancee) and George (the interpreter) with some insights into Deaf culture and the complexities of needing/using an interpreter. We'll also get to see Joanna Johnson (aka Jo) and Vicky, plus Jon and Kai of course, and Renee, too! In fact, the opening and ending scenes are some of my favorites of the season.
Just a quick refresher on one of the terms used in this episode in case you've forgotten: Strong Deaf - it refers to someone who comes from a multigenerational Deaf family in which many family members are Deaf. Megan comes from a strong Deaf family, as does George.
Previously on In/Exhale: Kai went in for some routine tests but a major panic attack landed him in the hospital. He avoided a 72-hour psych hold, but he's still having some problems with nausea and his blood pressure so they kept him overnight. Vicky has the hopes that she can keep their small family together despite her pregnancy threatening to tear Jon in two, and so she remodeled her house to make it as welcoming to Kai as possible. Kai, Vicky, and Jon spent Christmas Eve at her house, but Kai still hasn't made any decisions about living situations yet.
This week on In/Exhale: Renee sneaks in an early-morning visit at the hospital and is surprised when Kai doesn't kick her out of his room. Kai struggles to keep his food down so that he can be discharged, and ends up having to bum a ride from an unlikely person. Megan gets thrown into a tense interpreting situation, and Jon has a difficult patient. Kai is in for an unwelcome surprise, proving that the road to hell really is paved with good intentions.
Next week on In/Exhale: Something happens that endangers Kai and Jon's relationship. Steve returns, and so does a beloved character from last season. Vicky and Jon go to her mid-pregnancy ultrasound and find out the sex of their baby.
Oh, I also wanted to say I know that it feels like Kai just can't get a break, but I promise that it's not all bad for our hero. In fact, I've been working on the Valentine's Day episode and I can't wait to share it with you. I know you will all love it. ^_^
I've updated the Table of Contents as always, and I fixed the episode numbering so it's consistent (this week's episode is #69!).
