“What’s the belt for anyway?” I blurt out suddenly.
Brody
looks up at me in surprise. He glances
down at the strap that arches over his gut.
“It’s to keep me from falling forward when I reach for stuff,” he
explains. “If my torso fell forward, I
might not be able to get up again.”
“Oh,”
I say.
He
frowns. “Why? Do you think it looks
bad?”
“No,
of course not,” I say quickly. “I was
just wondering.”
He
bites his lip. “I could take it off, if
you want. I mean, I’ll be with you guys,
so…”
“Christ,
Brody,” Sean interrupts us. “Emily said it’s fine.” He rolls his eyes. “Stop
being so goddamn insecure about everything.
She’s dating you—obviously, she likes the way you look. For some reason.”
